If you arent keep ing up with Charlie Sheen ...

"I’m a grandiose life, and I’m embracing it. I got wisdom and I got stories, man. Sorry, the scoreboard doesn’t lie."

Tell me about the last time you took drugs.
I probably took more than anyone could survive. I was banging seven-gram rocks, because that’s how I roll. I have one speed, I have one gear: Go.

How do you survive that?
Because I’m me. I’m different. I have a different brain, I have a different heart… I got tiger blood, man.

"AA was written for normal people. People that don’t have tiger blood and adonis DNA."

"I am on a drug. It’s called Charlie Sheen. It’s not available because if you try it you will die. Your face will melt off and your children will weep over your exploded body."

“Resentments are the rocket fuel that lives in the tip of my sabre.“

If you're not caught up, here's a quick recap:

what would you do?

The test for tomorrow was announced over a week in advance.

"Herndon, I have been at all-state orchestra since Friday, only coming home for sleeping. Would it be possible for me to take the test Tuesday for Wednesday so I can have a day or two to study before the test?"

My response so far is that the all state band is a privelege and the hourse were not a suprise. My inclination is "no, that's what being a student-artist is about."

Greatest wife ever?

So the wife bought me a copy of "Predators". I, of course, thought she had bought a collection of "Chris Hanson's Greatest Hits". Instead, good times watching a completely bad-assed movie, and hearing the wife say "There's no point in arguing with you about spaceships".... PRICELESS.

I thought this was interesting

Since I know for sure that I had at least one Star Wars related discussion this weekend and maybe even the Trekkie/Trekker discussion.

It made me think alot about the Facebook requests I get all the time from people who had kids @ 22 and are looking at being grandparents sometime soon. Thinking about it in terms of education & job opportunities and basically fucking around for 15+ years makes me more comfortable with the idea of "getting it right" instead of "getting it first".

Whats my name? Fuck you, thats my name.

Getting around DRM

One of my students suggested that I use tunebite to get rid of Rhapsody DRM. Unfortunately I just bought a Mac and it is not compatible. Not sure how many of us are Mac users but I would like to find something comparable. Any suggestions?

Also I have my old PC but it could go at any point.

Wow

How long has it been since I posted anything financial? Dunno, a year? It got less interesting when y'all quit responding to comments about the financial implosions by saying I had a tin foil hat on.

Anyhow, here's the most interesting chart I've seen in a year:

This rate is very simple: Number of people with jobs/number of people. There's no adjustment or manipulation according to whether or not someone is looking for a job, etc.

Today's labor participation rate is equal to that of the single-worker boom times of the 1950s and or a typical time in the 1980s. My read is that Americans chose to work more, either through womens' lib or necessity, but that choice is now gone. We're back to single worker households because we have to be.

Funniest shit ever

Awesome Valentine's cards

Blogging hits teacher news again

Seems that anonymously commenting about work may lead to troubles, a challenge of the first amendment and a possibly ridiculous lawsuit.

Teacher busted for blogging.

Closing in on 4th anniversary

Thought I'd get back to our roots and share my general work out routine :
Dips
Pull ups
Box jumps
Bench 135
Clean & Press , 44 lb kettlebell
Wheel o' pain
Standing Flies 15 lb
Kettlebell Swings , 2 pooder
Gada swings

Since moving and getting into a regular groove of working out 2-3 times a week in the Rape Room, I started at 5 reps, 2 set. Up to 8 reps, 2 sets.
Before moving up to another rep, I go through a week of doing 2-3 reps of something in between every set -- box jumps, wheel o' pain or standing flies and replacing that missing exercise with pistols or burpees.

Im looking to find a way to do turkish get ups without rolling in racoon poop.

I have a 70+ lb barbell that I think could be used for some dead lifting or clean & press. Also have a couple dumbells, 25-40 lbs but I dont feel like doing curls.

Somali Pirates

does anyone have a lead on why thirdworlders hiding on deep sea fishing boats and using skiffs and hand held armaments are scaling the sides of 3story tankers and overwhelming crews of 25 people. Apparently the lastest is 1/5 of the daily import to the US.

don't we have satellites, hi tech detection, crazy ass munitions? They can't operate at sea for three months on a fucking 18' starcraft. . .

a bunch of overzealous hippies stop japanese harvesters from collecting whales by tossing stink bombs at them and the western military can't sink a pirate ship?

Why aren't we boarding every boat and sinking any bearing materials need to storm a tanker?
Can't we blockade a port or two? where the money is going should be obvious, find the goat herder driving a mercedes. . .

I don't get it. What's the point of a global military presence if we're letting bandits run off with 90 million dollar shipments?

SHOCKING FACT -- LobsterDog is a never nude!

McBain!!!!

It turns out that if you stitch together all the little over-the-top McBain movie clips shown in several seasons’ worth of Simpsons episodes, they form a coherent mini-feature — a little Easter egg planted by the fun-lovin’ Simpsons writing staff!

Another exercise in cat herding

Thoughts on getting down to Florida to watch one of the last Shuttle launches ???

Being a parent of a teething baby...

makes me feel like we're being beat-in to a gang or hazed into a frat.
JUST discovered there are things called "one year molars" that appear to be the bane of my existence.

Couple of tid bits from this weekend

The Saturday wing buffet @ Buffalo Brothers on Lake Boone is magnifique!!! We didn't replicate our 46 wing destruction, but we put back 25 each. We're thinking of going about once a month or so.

I found out what was wrong w. my knee -- Iliotibial Band Friction Syndrome -- and that I could have avoided 20+ years of pain and suffering by just stretching. Ouch. Feeling very stupid.

And finally .... lack of sleep is fucking killing me. Not an ear infection, "just" teething.

Anyone else ever cry when their kid didnt take a nap ?

He missed his 3-5 and I was REALLY hoping & praying & needing to take a concurrent nap.
Now I'm on the hook until 8:15 or so.

My statement for the day...

When asked whether I liked Mötley Crüe...'not really, I prefer my metal bands to be a bit more satanic'.

My Mind was Just Officially Blown TFU!

The guy who played Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite (a movie I've only seen once and one that I find completely without merit) was also Lazlo Hollyfeld from the great 1980's movie Real Genius.
