Tailgaiting!

So I was like...

"Why the fuck does my knee hurt so bad?"

Ummm.... apparently, I tried to firemans carry a 300 lb Irishman.

Last night sort of snuck up on us

Apparently, the easiest way to avoid a hang-over is to vomit up EVERYTHING you have ever eaten. Man, been a while since I've had dry heaves. Memories! Light the corners of my mind. Misty water-colored memories!

So, I have to award a couple of "Solids" for last night.

The Q.o.C. gets one for bringing my drunk ass a Diet Pepsi.

H.E.P. gets one for babysitting my drunk ass

The G.P. / VoR ver 2.0 gets one for stopping by and dragging the Sidekick's ass home.

Ms. Nancy gets one, because if we had gone to the Bo, I would have wasted all that money by puking it up.

All around good time. Kudos to everyone who pitched in.

Almost forgot - Good Lord

I have escaped from the Langoliers long enough to remind everyone about the Kelly Pavlik vs. Jermain Taylor this weekend on free HBO! Fight of the year potential!

It's at night of course which should give all you people time to return from the 3:30 NCSU game (Go Pack!). Also for those of you interested, the Florida-Auburn game is on ESPN at 8. It's going to be a violent night, so everyone, bring your cups.

If there are any takers, let the blog know. Sidekick if you provide location, I can provide food.

Am I stuck in the Langoliers?

Where in the shit is everyone?
If all of you have been eaten by time travelling mouths, I blame Tray Dee.

Umm... 900, beeches.

As we look back on the 900 Greatest Hits, I gotta say, its been a hell of a lot more fun than any of us would have imagined, and lasted WAY longer than expected.
Good times, and thanks to everyone for contributing, reading, bringing in new blood, and keeping politics and religion where they belong.

So HEP was kind enough to not embarrass me.

Last night, as we started playing Halo 3, I had to do a scratch off of my 12 month membership card from Best Buy.
Problem is, HEP's cutleries are made of adamantium, and ground off not only the silver scratch off, but the code underneath.
I was like "HFS!!! HOW AM I GOING TO PLAY!!!"

Anyhoo, everything worked out in the end, and even if Best Buy wont give me a refund, Im sure my marginal cost will soon be close to pennies per hour anyway.

Umm....Why aren't we watching

Down Lassiter Mill, across the greenway (5), around Shelly Lake (2), up Millbrook to Glenwood (3), up to Lynn (1), down Lynn to Falls (6), down Falls to the house (2).

Wish me luck. I may call one of you goony bastards if I cramp up or get blisters.

End of an era. Supermug #3 has seen it last days.

So I had Supermug #1 in high school and the first couple years of college.
Too many days of shindigging broke off the handle. Great cup.

Supermug #2 was damn near perfect, and I suspect I had it almost a decade.
Too many times in the freezer caused it to get cracks, and it had to be retired. You can tell when they're shot - somehow they get a crack, moisture gets inside and they start to sweat. Whats the point of having a thermos mug if it acts like a cup?

Now, Supermug #3, which isn't TOO old, is showing its age, and starting to sweat.

So, if anyone takes a road trip past the Flying J on 40 in Burlington, feel free to pick me up a 34 oz. thermos mug, and you will be reimbursed.
Nothing smaller, nothing larger. 34 oz. is, much like the 90' in baseball, the perfect size.

I think I'm watching an honest to Xenu repo

Illusion shattering 10 miles

So I went down to Shelly Lake, around, down the greenway and up Lassiter Mill.
When I hit mile 6, I decided to "turn it on", and really kick the shit out of the last 4.
Which I felt like I had done.
Nope.
1:40 to finish.
Thats.... wait for it....
10 minute miles.

Either I didnt leave the house at 7:12, or Tray Dee used his time machine to once again fuck with me.
As well as not stopping 9/11.

This kitty hates our freedom. This kitty is holding back information.

Looks like its time to bring back the Top 25 Nobels

Which, in laymans terms, are the rankings of the Nobel Peace prizes from 1973 onward.
I know, I know - thats 35 years.
Quit your whining and drink the damn Irish Car bomb!

Let's jump back in.
1989.
After Ronaldus Maximus, the Iron Lady, and PJP el Deuce defeated the commie forces of the Warsaw Pact, there was only one thing left to do.
Not to continue consistently resisting the use of violence in his people's struggle to regain their freedom as did Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama.
F That.

We needed someone to throw a kicking fucking party on the Berlin Wall.
Thats right, beeches.
Nobel Peace Prize, 1989 goes to David Hasselhoff.

Some Party Videos

Let the pwning begin. The Sidekick demolishes me and the Greguar here. I think that this clip also led to the Sidekick's sabatical and subsequent stages of anger: sleeping, waking, anger, vomiting, more anger, vomity nose blowing (not sure if this is one of his steps but it did happen), and then sleep.

Football musings

So if I were overseas as I once was and I got a letter saying:

Duke, ECU and APPState have THE only wins over D1 schools (1 each) three weeks into the season.

I would have sworn someone was just taking advantage of the lack of electricity in the 3rd world to pull my leg.

Of all the triangle teams, Dook has the one win. . .

Then ProFootball today. . .

Quit watching the Panthers game because it was 14-0 in the blink of an eye. . . Surprised at the turn of events that happened in my absence. . .

Oakland at Denver; I guess it's fair game to pull some gamesmanship rather than just play the game, at least the boys pulled themselves back into it and typical of teams I root for, missed a win by less than the width of the freaking football. And was that wide left?

Their motto : "Everything should taste like bacon"

Thats right --> BACON SALT!

And... wait for it....
It's kosher!!!

A long 15 miles and no witty commentary.

Kind of crampy - might need to take a bullion cube with me and suck on it like a chaw of dip at around mile 12.

So next week, we're thinking of taking our Magical Mystery Tour to Durham for a jaunt on the Historic Tobacco Trail. T-bone, any interest in joining me for several miles on your roller blades ?

***SITE ADMIN NOTE***
No wonder that first "2" miles went so fast.
Mile marker 9 is in front of Meredith, NOT the vet school.
Ah well.

I'm just putting this out there.

But MAYBE, just maybe, adding single serving liquor shots to the mix might not be the best idea we've ever come up with.

H2?

The IRA has struck again! 4 car bombs a piece for me and the Queen. We are attempting to make a baked ziti at 10:30 pm.

Anyone down for some H2 tomorrow? The Queen has to work tomorrow evening so we could do it over here but the Sidekick is allergic to my place. If anyone is interested I am sure that we could find a location.

I have the ingredients for Car bombs, but we can always try something else, beer is always good.

Who's down?

BFT

So, I got's a Big Fucking Truck. $10 goes to the first person who can acutally find me when I'm sitting in it.
*(Please note, photo IS to scale...it is, in fact, that much bigger than the houses and truck in the background. Oh, and that is Capital Blvd that it's parked on).

Now that I've sobered up....

HFS. I thought the "Summer of Kevin" was over.
Then, the Big Mick shows up with some Guinness & we start pounding down Irish Car Bombs and trying to play H2 on Legendary.
All in all, a good time was had.
I'm guessing we'll be running some Halo over the next few days, getting back in shape.

Arret!

HFS

Tonight AWESOME! Very fucked up.

The Admirol and I played Halo 2 on Legendary thinking that we would make it way past the second hangar bay. Soooo wrong. After 4 Irish car bombs and 4 guiness a peice we realized what we were up against. No way we are ever going to make it past the 2nd hangar bay if we continue going at this rate. I think it would be great if we continue at this rate. Anyone else? However when H3 drops we should have an awesome time. I'm ready beeches.
Now I'm off to get the Queen of Confrontation some folders. If I get a DWI I am so going to have to castrate the Admirol. He knows what I am talking about.

Wow. Oden likely out for season after knee surgery

Sorry for the lack of witty banter today.

Mostly, I talked w. Deus Porcelina.
Short, declarative sentences, punctuated w. epithets.

Trapped in the Bathroom

Not political, just good PG-13 humor.

"That's not how gay works."

This is a prank.

Everything else, bullshit posturing (and it has been 'confirmed' as real in this case).

I'm guessing we can say the Cold War is over.

Karl Marx Strasse, Berlin

Interestingly enough, the Big B is two "S"-es in Deutsch. I learned that because we lived near Giessen
You can follow highway E40 West to Herborn , and that, mon freres, is where I grew up.
And where my dad was doing his part to put a Wal Mart into downtown Berlin.

Something wicked this way blows chunks.

So all I can think is that my "Voila" was bad, because I didn't have anything to eat yesterday until about 8:30, and spent almost all night in a fetal cramp ball yacking.

Things were looking good @ 8:30 this morning, so I tried some biscuit.
Yack & cramps that put me down till 1.

Anyone I may have had plans with, I do apologize, but I'm clearing the social calendar for tonight, hoping at some point I will be able to eat.

Gee humorously thought this might be from drinking, and I'm like "Who the hell drinks on a Tuesday? "

Adding to the list of regrets.

So #1 regret of all time: Not kicking a field goal @ graduation
#2: Not going downtown to see Cheap Trick, live & free

#3 has just been added tonight: Never seeing U2 on the "Joshua Tree" tour.
Just watched "Rattle & Hum".
Wow.
My first thought, which sounds quite gay, was: If even 10% of the men in Ireland are as handsome as Bono, its surprising they haven't taken over the world by fecundity.
(Maybe Pooler is Irish?)
The Sidekick helpfully noted - Irish Potato Famine.
Ahhh!!!
Anyway - great movie, very beautimous what with the black & white cinematography.

Completely NSFW!!!

SMOKING HOT!

Look at that ankle!!!

What exactly did I miss while I was asleep?

WWTDD, my link to the gossipy rags of LA & NY, is currently down!!!

Something wonderful and beautiful apparently happened in Las Vegas yesterday, if by "wonderful & beautiful" I mean a walking Darwin Award of tragedy known as Britney Spears did something humorous.
Anyone?
Anyone?
So the family pc (read Mintcy's Laptop - mine apparently awaits reburial to join its friends already returned to the cretaceous) is starting to show its age. I started looking around online and found myself completely overwhelmed by all the IEEE xyz 123 acronyms and the like and have no idea why any one 2GB RAM is more important to have than another, etc. As well as a DVD +/- ^2 RW/WR/RR/WW/WTF choice I would apparently need to make.

We want a desktop that that can be used to edit mini DV footage to be burned onto DVD for memories, Grandparents and the beyond 3 hour drive family and friends. Edit involves cut out the footage of my feet and ceiling and any audio point where I use four letter words while capturing memories of my feet and ceiling. We don't play video games, but it sounds like the editing requirements and gaming requirements are very similar.

I would like to embark on this arduous quest armed with more than a wide eyed look of shock and awe. So if anyone has recently updated their PC for the sake of keeping the grandparents and other relatives very well informed of the weekly antics of their FAVORITE grandkid, please shoot me some advice.

question about beginners "luck" and survivor football.

Picking Kansas City over Houston merely because I remember some TE named Gonzalez for the Chiefs means I voted myself off the island. I'm that dude that gets more airtime via the nths of a minute that'll replay over the rest of the season than I'll get in the first episode from which I'll be ejected. . .

ouch

so can I still put my two cents in here and there OR should I just wait for Bball to start?

damn pro football. . .

AND the Raiders lost to Detroit. At least Calvin Johnson made it happen. . .

damn football. . .

augh!

going to bed to await the emergence of the premolar cutting toddler somewhere in the early am. .

lookout tangent

thought the morning while driving past UNC campus on way back from chocolate cake purchasing with the very asleed 25 lb deadweight on my shoulder. (granted I don't work out, but fatherhood has me more ripped than I've been in the last decade - If I keep hoisting him over my head for the next decade, I should be RIPPED)

Is APPSTATE the only NC school with a win over a formerly D1 football opponent?

After TWO weekends of play. . .

were I more fair weathered (like dook 'bball only' fans, i'd be sportin' some boone paraphenalia) although NOT boone's farm as some of us may fondly be glad they can't recall. . .

Once you take it back, you can never give it away.

Lesson #1 - no more liquor parties.
Ever.

Mad props go out to the 'Uar - you, mon frere, are a good man and you deserve an "atta boy!"

Live Blogging the party!

Being the FF commissioner sucks.

There's lots of hooch flowing.

Lots of people make specific conversations very, very difficult.

*Earlyish morning addendums*

The Admir0l's people are drinkers apparently.

My 5 stages of grief:

1)Sleeping
2)Waking
3)Anger
4)Vomiting
5)More anger, for a very long time
6)More sleeping

Antacids apparently make vomiting much more tolerable.

Being the center of a Venn diagram of drinking can really put a strain on the body:

I'm sure that there will be many, many pictures and vids posted in the next several days.

I meant to edit my Top 5 movies, Evah recently.

So
#1 I THOUGHT was Conan, but I have to knock that to #2

#1 movie of all time: Midway.
Not only does it capture the glory of war, but it also encompasses the enormous Clauswitz-ian fog of war, and how 1 day literally changed the course of history.
Greatest. Movie. Ever.

#2 Conan
#3 Aliens
#4 Empire (Not John Leguizamo - fucking Empire Strikes Back)
#5 Shogun Assassin, Robocop or Fellowship.

Free appetizers @ Fox & Hound

I hope a good time was had by all.
Thanks to everyone for coming out.

Have a good Friday, see most of you Saturday.

I mentioned KSK is back.

Did I happen to mention, the Sex Cannon has ALSO returned?

Why I Teach: part deux

The science dept has ~35 carts that are used for various things. Sometimes people will borrow them and will never return them. My dept chair went around this summer and collected carts from people's rooms over the summer. Here is one man's complaint and my numerous responses.

Athletic trainer guy's email to the enitre WHS staff: Subject: Sprots (yes that is his spelling) medicine cart is missing and needed

My student trainers are moving large amounts of water daily and they would be very thankful if anyone knows the where abouts of a large grey cart with sides. It has sports medicine written on its sides. Thankyou.

My response to dept chair: I can't believe that you took the poor atheltic kids cart. Now they have to carry water like 300 yards.

My dept chair's response: : )

Let them surffe or should that be suffer...

Athletic trainers school wide email today: Please help us find this cart. I allowed it to be used to help people move books and stuff in and out of rooms. We need this back. If you have seen it please let us know. This is really important to us.

My response to Dept chair but accidentally sent to the trainer guy instead because I hit reply instead of forward: It's time to send him a ransom note. We could take pictures of (his) cart with a copy of today's N&O.

SAMPLE LETTER: If you ever want to see your precious cart in one piece you will place $500 in small unmarked bills in [Dept. Chair's] mailbox. Do not alert the authorities. Do not attempt to find me. I found your little cart once I can find it again. Consider yourself warned.

What do you think?

My message to dept chair explaining that I had just dimed her out: Oh no, the jig is soon to be up. I sent the message to him instead of to you. That was the biggest mistake ever. If he comes to you for his cart then send him to my room he can have one of mine, or you can or whatever is more convenient.

My email to Sidekick: Ok so [Dept. chair] has this guys cart. It does say sports medicine but they wrote that over the word science. It is a science cart. [My dept. chair] told me this in confidence and I have been joking with her about it for the past few days. Today I made the penultimate gaffe in jokes. I sent the below email (see above email) to [athelitc trainer guy] istead of to [my dept. chair]. I suck!

The sidekick's response: See, had you sent it in unnaturally large font everything probably would have been OK.

My response to sidekick: DAMNIT!!! (in 36 font)

Sidekick's response: Much better, now you just need to start sending all of your correspondence to the entire faculty.

Also, BLOG IT!

This just never gets old

Two the hard way bitches.

In my quest to run the 'Autism Ribbon Run' for my wife, as she is laid low with Kelly-Hope, I have begun training.

Today: just over two miles in 26 minutes. Unfortunately, no late evening nap for me.

Let me say this now: biking 20 miles is much, much, much easier for me than running two fucking miles. Cunts.

8 the hard way: Shelly Lake to Lassiter Mill & home

Must take nappy nap.

No justice, no peace!

This sounds like it would be fun.

The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible

Maybe in the year leading up to the "30th Birthday Roast of the 'Uar", we could each do a month or so.

Someone figure out how we can add polls to StRA, so we can gauge the level of support for hare-brained schemes, until the Voice of Reason Ver I or II steps in and debunks them.

Long story short

We found that a customer had a router which was 'disconneted' last year. So billing stopped. But no one ever shut down their DS3 circuit - that's 34 Mbps.

Here are some intra-office back & forths.

FROM MRS X
I believe that 02R is the old back-up that we requested disconnected a year ago. It was removed from the biller and never from the network.

Reply, FROM MR. X
Please arrange for 02R to be removed from management since it has not been billed for a year. AT&T must have lost money on that DS3 circuit.

Reply ALL, from Rear Admir0l
Please arrange for 02R and its DS3 to be moved to our Vandelae Industries North Raleigh Disaster Recovery Center.

Florida's Next

Appalachian State, one of my Alma Matters, has several more big programs on their 'to beat' list. First and foremost, Florida. Who wins in a swamp match between a gator and wolverine? It doesn't matter because the redneck mountaineer just shotgun blasts both of 'em.

Current list of supplies for the 9/11 shindig

Currently, we are looking at burgers and a couple pounds of fries for grub.
I recently visited Buffaloes so I have plenty of ketchup

For the Irish Car Bombs:
I'm going to get half gallons of Baileys & Jameson's & a case of Guinness

***The Brain Trust needs to work out who's getting what***

For Flaming Dr. Peppers:
3/4 shot amaretto almond liqueur
1/4 oz 151 proof rum
1/2 glass beer

Ummmm... now that I think about it -- I dont know if anyone but Tom actually LIKES Dr. Pepper, much less en fuego!

For Kamikazees:
1 - 3 oz vodka
1 oz triple sec
1 oz lime juice

This... now this is a drink I can get my hands around.

Funniest thing.... ever?

The Sidekick re-enacting Jessica Alba explaining to Jessica Biel which areas of Derek Jeter are "infected" w. the herp -- Priceless.

ack college/pro conflict

So it was bad enough that Ronald Curry is on the Raiders roster. Now I realize Dante Culpeper was a UCF player - although it is not confirmed that he was a graduate. . .

Funny DC Story

We're approaching the FDR memorial, when someone asks about a statue which consists of a giant hand coming out of the ground.

I remark that if it's a hill giant, then it has 15 hit die and a resistance to frost. Our tour guide hears me and asks 'is that a D&D conversation I hear?'

He then spends the next 5 minutes deatailing his half orc monk with a 4 charisma.

More to come later as this may be either the best or worst tour guide evah.

We must act now!
Or within the next 6 days.

Once again, I love the Internet, Part 1/0

Forget the fact that it links to StRA faves
a) The ninjas from RealUltimatePower
and
b) the "Oh Snap!" diagram
This is better than the Chinese regulating reincarnation.

Worst thing about taking a crap in the woods

Is that:
A) You might not be sure if you pooped on your shoes or shorts
and
B) Being too tired to actually care.

16 is in the books.

Tentative schedule for this week:
Maybe 3 or 4 on Tue & Thurs
Definite 8 on Wednesday.

Hey, maybe WE didnt win, but....

No Division I-AA team had beaten a team ranked in The Associated Press poll from 1989-2006, and it's unlikely that it had ever happened before. The Division I subdivisions were created in 1978.

ASU - 15 game win streak, dating from last season, when they lost to ... Da Pack!

Some of the fun @ tailgating:
Our host had a bottle of Jack, & a bike cop made him pour it out.
Later, I boo-ed the cop.
Good times!
