They dont even know what kind of geek I am.

One of the dudes I work with was whining all morning that time needs to speed up so we can go home.

My BEST guess (dont have paper, pencil & calculator) was that if we left the office going 95% the speed of light IMMEDIATELY, then 45 minutes later turn around and come back, it should be time to go home (1.5 hours relative = 4 hours subjective)
VERY rough estimate.

t = t0/(1-v2/c2)1/2

where: t = time observed in the other reference frame

t0 = time in observers own frame of reference (rest time)

v = the speed of the moving object

c = the speed of light in a vacuum

Also, the question was "How does one get up to 'c' ?"
Best guess is to drop an infinite amount of nukes out the back of your heavily lead shielded space ship. Each explosion accelerates you a bit closer & closer to 'c'.
It would only hurt the first couple times going from speed = 0 up to Mach Jesus.

Might be willing to give up on the economy now.

GDP shrank more than 6%.

I had to call Sweet Dee this morning just to go over some things. NPR had an interview with a Deutche Bank economist who believes our only options are 20% unemployment or massive tax increases. S.D. thinks America can just declare bankruptcy. I know I'm the shiny happy optimist around here, but mother fucker... I think we're all fucked.

I meant to post the other night -- I was shopping for pistol ammo. There is NO, zero .357 ammo out there on the tubes, and very little .45 ammo. I think people are either hoarding for when the goobermint tries to outlaw guns OR for when everything collapses and we revert to cannibalism. Option B sounds more appetizing.

Anyway, I THINK we're at or near 20% ish unemployment or underemployment, which really is Depression level-ish. Since I only have a job until May and N.C. is running out of cash to pay unemployment, I'm mildly worried. If only a major corporation had offered me full time employment last August!!!

The only good news:

The deteriorating economy is dampening inflation pressures, with the personal consumption expenditures price index diving a record 5 percent. Excluding food and energy, prices rose 0.8 percent in the fourth quarter, the smallest advance since a matching increase in 1997.

Day 2 post squat assault challenge.

So the 'Uar called me last night -- he apparently did the SAC in about 30 minutes but ALSO worked it into his "normal" workout routine. He was quite pitiful. That was funny.

This morning -- my legs are just two stiff boards -- whatever muscle attaches your arse to the back of your knee, those things aren't working.

5 Reasons Ric Flair Is The Greatest Human To Walk The Face Of The Earth

Only 5????

Well played sir.

Score on for the good guys!

Not sure how cold it got last night, but one of the Mole Kings minions apparently was trying to tunnel into one of my raised beds and froze halfway into his hole.
Suck it you moleish bastard!!!

Anyway, come August I'll be getting a phone w. a camera and will provide action shots.

Lets skip right over the prison jokes.

My ass is SO sore.
NOT my bung-hole. My glutes.

Using the extra weight appears to have made a difference.

BTW -- I dont think I'm short tempered, but some cockwallet @ trivia said some fairly annoying things to me last night, and I went from zero to red vision in about 2 seconds. All I could think was "What would Patrick Swayze do!!!"
Who in the hell talks complete shit to total strangers ?

Shenanigans @ work

Today I volunteered to watch a teacher's class so that she could run down to the break room and toast a bagel. She is pregnant and had skipped breakfast. In the short time that I am in her room I notice that she had left her email window open. I send her an email (from herself) which basically reads as follows:

Dear [MeatSpace Name], This is [same MeatSpace Name] from the future. The words that I am sending you are of the utmost importance. Today during lunch someone is poisoned. It is imperative that you go into the break rooms on this floor and throw away all the food that is in the refrigerator. You cannot be certain which food is poisoned so you must throw everything away. Today you have the chance to save some one's life and they will thank you for it.

Trust me, [MeatSpace Name]

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

On a completely separate issue, about an hour later two ladies were in the break room and one was talking about how her sister may be getting divorced. This is very boring so I tuned them out until she mentions that they haven't had sex in "a LOOOOOONG time". At this my ears perk up and I start to listen to the ladies. She then tosses out that she thinks it has something to do with the guy having a tiny penis. I chime in with, "Well this is easily fixed. Tell your sister to get a tube of those DIY croissant rolls, some popsicle sticks, and some duct tape. You bust open the dough and mold the entire tube into whatever satisfies you. You then hunker it down on his junk, place the popsicle sticks in there for support, and then duct tape the whole thing together so that it will stay in place. You are going to need lots of duct tape. This marriage can still be saved!"

At some point in there one of the ladies looked really pissed but the one who was spilling the dirt was amused and asked whether the dough should be baked first.
My response, "EEEEwwwww, now that's just disgusting."

All in all a good day.

I bet you $10 my ex-in laws LOVED this.

Kudlow nails it.

People that didnt cheat or make stupid decisions are scared that they are going to lose their money to A) crooks on Wall Street, B) wasteful government spending or C) teat sucking non-taxpayers.

Thoughts on "The Rock"

Who was changing the light bulbs down in the basement?
Why was there a giant apparatus that consisted of fire and moving parts in the basement?
Why was there a MINE beneath Alcatraz?

Many Apologies

This afternoon = Massive screw up by me.

Not only did I miss the viewing of UFC 95 with the RA and TD, but they were kind enough to stop what they were doing this afternoon to take part in plans that I initiated.

Extremely bad form on my part. I will figure out a way to make it up

So dont come between a mother grizzly & her cub...

or Liam Neeson and his daughter.
Imagine if the kill count of Red Dawn were accomplished by one man (or mother grizzly bear).

THIS
is very good news. One thing about the movie was it reinforced the idea that I live in a very happy bubble where nothing REALLY bad ever happens.

Mad props to the Sidekick

for
#1 introducing me to the kettlebell and getting me on the road to getting in shape
and
#2 introducing me to HEP and getting me my bouncing job, which has made me HUGE.

GOOD TIMES!!!

HST on Conan

Although I find the way he left the earth completely objectionable, the man had a flair for the dramatic like few ever have.

Much Like Skynet, I Think She's Becoming Self-Aware.

Two quick stories:

1) The other day we get home and are puttering around the house and I say 'Hailey, do you want to take off your sweater?' Instantly she walks over and begins wriggling out of the sweater with my help.

2) When Shana asks her if she's ready for dinner, she now takes off to the high chair and points up into the seat, waiting for one of us to put her into it.

Yeesh, I may soon have to start minding my cunting language around her, thank FSM for the blog.

I'm pretty sure I'm done with Woody's trivia

So we were winning going into the final question which was : Name up to 10 of the presidents who have been elected to more than one term.
No more than 10 or you lose points.
So if we got all 10, we were guaranteed to win -- which we did.

THEN... he changed it to "Name as many as you can" -- we only got 11 of the 16 and a team that was not even close to us won.

WEAK.

"Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth?"

So the Sidekick tells me to do 2 sets of 3 using the Ab Wheel.
I took that as "per workout session"
I did it about 3 times today.

I started coughing tonight and my friggin abs seized up -- CRAMPS!!!
Its like I'm PMSing.

Next time -- I listen.

So I honestly have to say....

I ALWAYS thought that if anything untoward happened to me, or if by some odd chance I had children and bad things happened to them, that I would be able to fall back on my brother to do all the things that Denzel does in "Man on Fire".
Anyway... I do have duct tape and guns, but I dont think I'm ready to add that particular skill set to my portfolio quite yet.

Uh anyone recognize the maid at the back left? Or the huge wedge of cheese back right?

Alan update:

I know I'm a sappy SOB. While I'm sure there's a varying level of investment in his passing, I found some information on a facebook group for him. I really didn't know him that well. We did a lot of the same events in Teaching Fellows, even sharing a room on a Discovery trip for a week. There were the PPP events, but I spent a lot more time with Tau Tau's (for obvious reasons) than I did the Figmented group. The electric avenue cover was always fun. I just hate to see anyone, liked, loathed or something in between go out early. On some memorials I've come across there's a lot of celebrating Julius Caesar, but I know that that was Jan's baby. People you meet in college are supposed to be around for another 50 years, not 15. And it's not supposed to be something chronic and painful if it does happen.

______________________________________________________________
pasted from the fb group.

Here are the arrangements for Alan this weekend: The family will receive friends at Spencer Baptist Church on Saturday from 2 to 6. The memorial service for Alan will be at Spencer Baptist Church on Sunday at 2:00.

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

As most of you probably already know, Alan left us this morning at 10:33. This is hard for all of us, to say the least. Alan will always be one of my best friends, and I won't forget the impact he had on my life - and I'm sure, whoever you are, you won't forget his impact on yours. Whether it was schoolwork, performing, writing, or just living your life, Alan showed all of us how great we really can be, and never stopped encouraging us to be even greater. I know that I wouldn't be half of what I am today if I had never met him.
I will update this (and message everyone, just as I have with this) as soon as I know about funeral arrangements. Until then, we can only give our support to Alan's family, and each other. R.I.P. Alan - we won't forget you.

Monday, February 9, 2009

The hospice nurses have told me that Alan has now slipped into a coma. His pain is now subsided, and he is in a state of restfulness at this point, which is a great thing for him. We thank you for and greatly appreciate the support Alan has been receiving over the last few weeks, and we only ask for a continuation of that support. I will update as soon as I know more.

Crap, someone beat us to it.

OMG, I as such a funny sum beech

So my niece (who's lifelong dream is to go to Duke) is pulling straight Bs
I told her "You know, that might not even be good enough to go to State. Have you ever given thought to managing a fast food restaurant? You'd be like the girl in the T.I. video, and some Duke lawyer or doctor would come in and order wings" Then I started singing "Patron on ice. We can pop bottles all night. You can have whatever you like, yeah you can have whatever you like."
OMG -- it was SO fucking funny.

Holy Crap!

I'm only separated by one degree from Obama on LinkedIn! One of my direct connections is directly connected to Barack Obama.

The gauntlet has been tossed!!!

So on the 24th, for lunch, me & my coworkers are going to IHOP for the "Man-cake Challenge"
The minimum level of eating is 21 of the 5 inch pancakes.

Monday, February 09, 2009

Come on! Tell me this ain't funny!

The Wheel of Time comes and goes....

and eventually that which was comes again.

So.... the guys at work are, for some reason, wanting to do some competitive eating.
I'm like "You REALLY dont know what you're getting into. I've seen you guys eat. It will only hurt more when I slow down and dip my food into water while you struggle through your 2nd pound. "

Apparently... there is a giant burrito that needs to be eaten and I'm the man to do it.

This all started by someone seeing an 11 pound pizza on the tubes.

Need some input from the StRA community.

A certain "person of interest that I have corresponded with" has inquired as to if I'm always a silly goofball OR if I can pull of sexy & romantic.

Thoughts? Opinions?
Anyone willing to set a line on this ?

Please add your votes to the attached poll!!!

PHASE 1

Saturday, February 07, 2009

Now that's a knife...

or a bottoms up in this case.

Sorry for lack of witty reparte'

VERY busy week. Looks as if the plan for tomorrow is to go to breakfast / brunch with Tbone, then in the afternoon make the water tubes with the 'Uar.

I still want to see "Taken".

So I dont NORMALLY ask for Class C narcotics

But I can tell you right now my legs are going to hurt like a motherfucker tomorrow -- anyone who has a magic happy pill they can spare, I will be most appreciative and will most likely buy you something nice, like a turkey leg from a Ren Fair.

Changing things up a bit

TRYING to do a workout found on Gym Jones

This one is for the 'Uar

Dips, Pull Ups, Dead lift 160#, Gada Swings -- 3 sets of 10.
Very very close to putting in a 4th set or upping reps to 15.
Kind of proud of myself - I can actually do some bad assed pull ups.

C&P of 1.5 pood, Box Jumps, Curls 35#, Swings 1.5 pood -- 2 sets of 5 (very tired)
